Richard Delingpole

19. Australian Soldier, 1915

Famously fighting in Gallipoli, the Australian Army, operating at this time as the AIF, also fought with distinction in the Pacific, Egypt and Palestine and of course on the Western Front. One notable action was the taking and later holding of the Messines Ridge after the massive mine explosion stupefied the Germans.

Known for their distinctive slouch hat with rising sun badge, the Australian Imperial Force was also issued with the Brodie Helmet, seen here on the soldier’s back.
