10. Home Guard, Worcestershire Regt. 1940

British Army, Worcestershire Regt, WW2.

Immortalised by "Dad's Army" the Home Guard were Britain's last defence against German invasion, a very real threat in the early years of the War when Britain was least prepared for total war. Many of these men would have seen service in the Great War, so were not unfamiliar with combat.

Naturally, they didn't have the best equipment as that was needed for the regular army serving abroad. They were lucky if they had real rifles at all. This soldier is equipped with a US WW1 Springfield rifle, which was not uncommon.
